update on my cassette recording plans: the recorder i have is utterly hopeless. I opened it up and scrubbed all the dirt off, cleaned the heads, checked the bands and its still sooo noisy. It's not a general hiss thing, in comparision to the self-recorded old tapes i have it's sooo terrible. I'll definitely check if I can get one with good noise suppression and/or a bias dial. Is anyone here really into the topic and do u have recommendations within a reasonable price limit?

If you go to a salvation army, goodwill, or other local thrift stores, you should be able to run into a tape deck for a very discounted price. They usually go for around 10 bucks if not less. Test it before you buy, in case any of the gears aren't working (for tape playback), or if it reverses, can dub, etc. Most of the time, they're pretty reliable and sturdy, and they possess most if not all the features you need to rip from and dub to cassettes.
I hope this helps, sorry for the tl;dr! · 1 week ago
