I am currently two weeks into a new job. I decided to try a custodial gig at a healthcare facility. I should update the 'now page' I guess.
So far I am enjoying things. I get to listen to music all day, work at my own pace, and not deal with other people beyond the occasional "Hi, how are you, have a good one." Im not getting paid a huge amount of money compared to my old work, but as a trade off there is much less stress involved. Im basically my own boss. Just keep the place relatively clean and everyone is more than happy.
The first week was a tough one. My body wasn't used to the activity and there was a covid situation I helped take care of. It was a little off putting but I didn't get sick so things all worked out.
The second week went by much better, everything went smoothly and I took a more relaxed pace to things. I wanted to make a good impression and I did, once I realized that they were just happy to have someone show up and do something I felt more comfortable taking a 5 minute break once in a while.
I like the physical activity and sense of acomplishment after cleaning up an area. Coworkers and clients both occasionally come up to me and thank me for the good job im doing. Its a nice thing.
While great with computers, I could never be a server admin or IT guy at least I don't think. Can't imagine how boring it would get to stare at a screen for 8 hours a day 5 days a week and do nothing.
I go out to the back of my van for lunch, its a decently spacious van that I could easily fit a single cott bed into and even some furnature too.
Now that im making $$ its time to think of how to best invest it. I've been struggling with this because I have a few major life goals and its hard to figure which to prioritize first.
It would be a big psychological boon to have my own land, even if its just a quarter acre with a wall tent or something. I need to figure out a van life type situation or buy a piece of land and put a tent up. Im gearing more towards furnishing the van out first since its immediately available to me and wont cost thousands of dollars up front.
Okay im getting a little tired so ill end it here. I am glad things seem to be changing, well see what the future brings in a few months.
