Have been debating whether to join the station since I first discovered the gemini protocol. Left Facebook and LinkedIn a while ago so wasn't sure if Station should have a place in my life.
I'm going to (rather obviously) give it a try. Gemini is great both in concept and content but sometimes I'd like to start a dialogue with other gemini users and the options are usually; you can't or it's via an "out of band" method such as Email or mainstream socials. Since I'd prefer to reduce my usage of those systems it doesn't leave many options :'(

@martin agree with @whixr, great balance!
@whixr new video every friday! if it helps to have a schedule :) i don’t use yt comments either and prefer station for that anyway. · 1 year ago
@martin struck a great balance with this thing!
Being around here a little while now, I suspect most of us are like ... too busy actually living to dedicate the kind of time it takes to 'keep up' with social media :)
Fun fact: @danrl posts here when he uploads new videos, so I don't need to be logged into anything to know when to head over there, and I can comment on them here ... haha :D · 1 year ago
Glad to see positive experiences from folks who’ve been around this place a while now as well as newcomers! @danrl Station will always be like this – I don’t want it to grab attention, encourage users to come back, or influence people via algorithmic content. Just plain old simple, chronological timelines and everything else is up to how folks themselves decide to use it. 🙌 · 1 year ago
lot of us are in the same boat. this is a friendly place to hang out and the protocol limits what is possible and as long as @martin doesn’t optimize for engagement this will likely remain a cozy place. no algorithms needed.
i abandoned my website and deleted all other social media (except linkedin for some reason). station is the right level of social for me. · 1 year ago
@anthrax @jo thanks for your replies too. I think not being bombarded by notifications is definately a refreshing change from normie socials. A lower expectation for prompt engagement is a relief too. I expect that going forward I'll try to just check back once or twice a week rather than been glued a device waiting for the next post :) · 1 year ago
station is great for exchanging thoughts with the wider gemini community. i like it because it's very chill and i don't feel like i miss much when i don't check it for a month or two. no pressure here. there's no private messaging function but for these things i think email is fine, really. · 1 year ago
I pretty much left all my other social media and I like the vibe on Station. For one thing there's the fact that I don't have to see an auto-refreshing feed that's constantly screaming at me about new posts. The people are very chill too. · 1 year ago
@drh3xx yeah but I'm terrible at it, just like my real plants lol. only on my second generation. it is satisfying and thanks for the reminder to water it!
I appreciate the things folks have done with such a simple protocol. · 1 year ago
@gritty thanks for the reply. I try to play Wordo and Spellbinding daily. Are you on Astrobotany too? It's such a simple concept and surprisingly satisfying to care for your virtual plant. · 1 year ago
might be the easiest way to talk to people on spellbinding here · 1 year ago
