disappointed by the low quality of work that i got from one of those “hiring things out“ platforms. i ordered a couple of video editing jobs on fiverr just to see what the market is. the first revisions are usually the absolute bare minimum and i don’t know what the cultural background is of the creators but delivering such a low level of quality would make me ashamed. overall, the time is not worth it. i could have done it myself in half the comms and review time.

am i holding it wrong?

I think you need to get a referral from someone trusted and be willing to shell out $ to get good work. · 11 months ago

Obviously I don’t know anything about your particular case, but I’ve heard plenty of stories of gig workers, struggling with exceptionally thin margins, doing loads of shoddy work to try and make enough to survive. This is pure speculation, but it’s quite possible that they are ashamed (or at least not especially proud) of the quality of their work but ultimately need to eat.

There’s a fascinating deep dive into a particular content mill that examines one of these gig platforms if you’re interested (starts around 34 minutes):
