I was browsing Midnight Pub, and found this post: gemini://midnight.pub/posts/701

I did the same thing on my iPad as the OP and have been experiencing the same thing, almost like withdrawal. Even inspired me to make a post on my GemLog about it.

Anyone here had a similar experience?

@smokey Oh nice! I have a Windows 95 like launcher on my phone, with only icons to apps I need on the desktop. · 2 years ago

Yeah I also had that problem with looking at my phone screen. For me it was looking for the app I wanted to do something and being distracted by all the other apps. Or just opening the screen to be distracted. I solved it by installing T-UI As my default home screen/ app launcher which emulates a unix terminal for loading apps. Instead of looking for app icons which too often ends up as a distaction, I type in whatever i want the phone to do, or what app to run. "call home" "search cookie recipe" "gallery" stuff like that. Removing the need to visually search for icons really helped the active side of my brain get straight to what i wanted to do. · 2 years ago

Yup. I haven't eliminated online interactions entirely, but they are streamlined enough for there to be quiet periods without any new updates. At those moments I still sometimes feel the urge to "refresh the feed", even though I know there's nothing new waiting for me under that relentless reloading spinner. · 2 years ago
