THE GOOD people of Boher and surrounding parishes are closing in on
raising €50,000 for Cliona’s Foundation.
Over 170 men, women and children took part in the annual charity cycle
in memory of Ciara McCarthy. The brave seven-year-old passed away in
2013 after a long illness bravely borne.
The event started that year to keep Ciara’s memory alive and fundraise
for Cliona’s Foundation who supported the McCarthy family and help
countless others. The cycle had to be cancelled in 2020 due to Covid,
but a virtual version took place in 2021 and it has been back to normal
since 2022.
The 40km event, organised by Boher Community Development Association,
took in the highways and byways of Murroe, Boher and Cappamore. There
were a few shortcuts for those not used to being in the saddle!

One and all returned to Boher Community Centre, where the wonderful
ladies committee served hot tea and coffee and homemade cakes. Over
€6,000 was donated by the cyclists and others. This brings the grand
total raised in memory of the beloved daughter of James and Aoife
McCarthy and brother of Thomas to over €43,000.
Mary Finucane, of Boher Community Development Association, wished to
pay a sincere thank you to all who took part in the cycle and made
contributions, the marshals, stewards, Red Cross, community gardai,
Johnny Skehan, Herbie Power and the ladies committee for providing
refreshments after the event.
Thoughts are already turning to 2025 and closing in on the fantastic
sum of €50,000 for Cliona's Foundation.
