Paul O'Meara, 8 Jul
A judge told a woman he would “reluctantly” grant her a protection
order after she made allegations against her former partner.
The woman came before Naas District Court and claimed he had contacted
her and left a voice message.
She said he “made references to payback” in voicemail messages.
She also said he had breached a safety order in 2019.
The woman further claimed that he used to threaten her and follow her.
Judge Zaidan said this was not a case for an emergency protection
order, strictly speaking.
He said he would grant it reluctantly.
The ex partner was not present in court and was not represented.

The judge also said that the fact that he granted the order is no
guarantee that he will affirm it.
Judge Zaidan said that what happened in 2019 was addressed then.
He added that while there is an issue between them, this could be
resolved in the family law court.
He noted that if he applied the standard required for a protection
order he would not grant it but added ”I will err on the side of
caution.”
The case was put back for a fuller hearing.
