My partner has "Emily in Paris" on in the background; not really watching it, just something like white noise as she does her crosswords. I haven't been watching it either, just listening. And in this episode, Mozart's "Voi Se Chapete" starts to play.
It's amazing how music triggers memory. I'm suddenly sixteen again, playing in the orchestra, and we're playing this piece, one of the violinists putting down her violin and bow to sing.
I was stunned: those piercing, pale blue eyes; and that _voice_ —
Years ago now my partner and I played duets at a friend's wedding. An arrangement of "Voi Se Chapete" was one of our selections, and while I typically played the 2nd parts in our duets (I'm not being modest when I say my partner is a much better player than me), this was the only one where I asked to play 1st.
(post-edit: Googling her now, the soloist from my youth is now a professional operatic soprano)
