This is why I like Gemini. It's harder to mess it up, on either the client or server side, so you don't have to worry as much about how implementers will handle it. There's a few other simple protocols that come to mind as well, and neo-retrocomputing projects like uxn.

I wouldn't mind dealing with lower capabilities if it means getting things right. It seems like every week or two some service I use has a major security lapse. It's getting old!

Indeed! Security holes aside, I've had an extremely slow (for 2024) Internet connection, and all these fancy Webapps have degraded so poorly. Gemini and Gopher, on the other hand, have been absolutely fine. · 5 months ago
