The Glen Development Initiative (GDI) is set to launch its PEACEPLUS
project, 'A Stitch in Time', on July 9 at 1.00pm at the Brooke Park
Leisure Centre's Main Hall.
This two-year project aims to explore various aspects of history and
community within the Foyleside area of Derry, including the history of
shirt factories, past and present residents, and the impact of the
Troubles' 'Exodus' on the area.
The project will recruit 250 participants, focusing on residents from
the Foyleside area and individuals with cross-community links who have
former connections to the area or an interest in local history and
heritage.
According to Amanda McDermott, Project Coordinator: “We at GDI are
thrilled to launch this programme. The 'Stitch in Time' Programme will
run for two years, featuring a range of activities and events that will
promote good relations, reconciliation, positivity, and more.
“It will bring people who left the area during the conflict back
together, rekindling old friendships and creating new ones.”
In addition to its community engagement activities, the project will
also aim to develop a business case and masterplan for the iconic
Rosemount Factory.
