Date : Dec 5, 2019 Beer : Harvest Raspberry Peach Source : Brewery Vivant Style : Blended Farmhouse Fruit Ale City : Grand Rapids, MI ABV : 4.8%
"A blend of fresh Farmhouse ale and Foeder aged sour ale to which we add Raspberries and Michigan Peach juice."
I had to go look up what a "Foeder" is. Apparently, it's a giant wooden barrel with dimensions like a metal vat, and they're becoming popular with large brewerys for aging sour beers. I have no idea what that's supposed to do to the flavor, but they sure do look fancy.
This beer looks pretty fancy too. It tastes primarily like a fruity farmhouse with some sour beer blended in, and not the other way around. I can appreciate that it doesn't have that vomit acidity tinge that some other sours come with. The raspberry and peach fruit flavors both come through very natural and fresh. Overall this is a refreshing ale with a complex flavor profile.
I might order one the next time that I visit their tasting room downtown.
One, maybe one and a half.
