I spent all of my free time working on a MUD that has yet to be named. It has crafting, combat and special attacks, but incomplete skills and magic yet. There are several maps all connected and navigable with some basic creatures and game-world elements. It’s been a lot of fun. I’ll eventually make it public when it has enough stuff to do in it. I’m still working on how the skill system and magic will work. A good friend is helping me hammer out game system mechanics as I’ve decided I just don’t want the headache of dealing with weird licenses for the few systems I’ve been reading about.
I’m bringing back a world, back-story, and plots that I was considering turning into a roll playing campaign, but never got around to writing. Now it will become the basis for how the world works, the game lore, and quests.
As for mechanics, there will be XP and skill levels, but probably not player levels? The current goal is to make XP get rewarded as a result of skill use, then the XP can be “spent” to unlock skills. The code to pass a skill check, gain XP, and the like is all there, but I don’t yet have any of the skills set to have prerequisites. May have quests reward XP as well, but definitely going to have some quests unlock skills.
Balance? I’m 99.99% sure it will not be balanced as I create it.
