Riding home I crossed over Ferntree Gully road and was passing the high security facility on the corner with Forster road, I could hear some corellas calling and looked about, up in the sky -- no -- then in the trees -- again no. Looked down at the grass and there were _hundreds_ of them strutting about digging up the grass and feeding, looked very much like the scenes up along the Murray

Then five or ten minutes later passing through the Huntingdale wetlands, the maintenance works are over and the ponds all refilled. Dozens of frogs[1] are calling; Pock! Pock! Pock!

2023-02-10 / Friday / Not a Christmas beetle

On the ride home I thought I'd come across a Christmas beetle, which would have made me very happy ... even if it was dead as this one was. Along the Scotchmans creek path between the golf course and Oakleigh pool, lying on the path. About the right size and shape, but sadly, not the shiny colouration and as I found out from inaturalist, apparently it is a Cowboy beetle
