Another day, another wet grey winter day. But also, another butcherbird[1], and it finally prompted me enough to write for yesterday and today.
Weather slightly improving today, a little over 10°C and patches of blue in the sky on the morning ride to work. The weather deteriorated by lunchtime and I found myself running from sheltered spot to sheltered spot to get across campus without getting too wet. Sitting inside with my lunch, listening to a podcast and watching the drizzle against the windows I watched as a Grey butcherbird appeared and flew about up on a branch in the gum tree, darting back and forth then swooping down to ground level to grab food scraps before flying back up to its perch to eat them. No singing for this one, too busy feeding, an enjoyable ten minutes watching it before it took off across the lawns towards some other trees
