There are birds flying overhead and noises from the park, but sitting and weeding in the garden for an hour pulling out endless reams of long ropey grass reveals today's subject. A large fat praying mantis. I've no idea what species; about 12cm long, bright green, and with a very fat abdomen... perhaps she's about to lay some eggs somewhere and add to the mantis population
