Apart from a short outing to the doctor, on the bike of course, I spent the entire day at home. Elbow injury has partly curtailed the cycling, but not stopped it. That together with today's weather meant no explorations today
The forecast was for 20-30mm of rain, starting in the early afternoon, and true to the forecast it had just started drizzling around noon. I went out to take the lids off the compost bins to get them to catch as much rain as possible — not easy with them both being under the very dense canopy of the enormous bay tree. Lifting the lids is always an explosion of insect and other invertebrate life, today no different. Worms, slaters, clouds of tiny flies, a few earwigs and as the weather has warmed up a bit, a disturbing number of maggots. Catching my eye and making me smile was at least one, possibly a second, Marbled gecko[1] quickly hiding from view under the loose material in the bins. I suspect their numbers are diminished with the prowling cats but I still see them around; here in the bins or piles of fallen branches under the tree, over near or just inside the shed, or a few weeks ago, poking their head out of a gap in the front porch up near the roof.
