Another glorious sunny spring afternoon, my daily ride too me south down past the golf courses to Karkarook lake and around the bushland block to the east — in the opposite order, for once I went clockwise rather than around the lake first! Gum trees and rainbow lorikeets[1] overhead all the way around, then smaller birds on the way up to the lake but I wasn't paying enough attention. It was on rounding the lake that the standout wildlife of the day came to me — Pobblebonks! Bonk, Bonk BONK! Such a joyous sound, and so many of them, the south end of the lake seemed to be full of Pobblebonks, or Banjo frogs[2]
