There's been a cold southerly wind all afternoon, so even though it was sunny, it was still wintery outside in the garden. A pair of Spotted doves[1] flew down from the bay tree and spent at least an hour down at ground level, mostly on the brick path through the back lawn where I suspect they were soaking up the warmth from the bricks. Having mowed the lawn yesterday I think they were picking through all the diced up bits of weed leaves and other tasty morsels, including some of the remnants of the fungi fairy ring. Its the first time I've seen any down on the ground for a while… hardly surprising given the presence of the cats in the garden.
