As a follow-on from yesterday's first swoop of the season, today I had the second, third, fourth, etc. On and on, one of the more persistent pairs of magpies[1] I've met in the past few years!
Coming home from today's ride I realised I hadn't taken a ride photo yet so I decided to stop in at the Pioneer Cemetery which is looking very photogenic with all the wildflowers flowering. A friend had asked me if I'd had any problems with the magpies there since he had, so far I'd not seen any… of course then yesterday I was swooped down near the police station, which could well be a bird that has the cemetery as its territory. Today I'd only just stopped on the gravel path to look for the best gravestone and flowers when the attacks started, not one, but both birds of the pair attacked me both separately and together, multiple times and for the entire time I was in the cemetery from over near the playground all the way across to the police station.
Notice taken, I'll be more circumspect in the area for the next few weeks! At least no blood was drawn.
