Two days in a row of cold winter weather, there's a blast of cold air come in from antarctica and the temperaure has dropped down to near 10°C while its here. Not really the weather for prolonged trips outside, especially when combined with the wind & rain that it brought. Today I took a ride straight down the Djerring trail as far as my 10km limit allows, then turned around and came home, slightly offset and on parallel roads. Head down and bum up, not really looking around or seeing that much.
The wind and cold seem to make the wildlife hide, there were a couple of places along the path where trios of Galahs[1] were digging up grass roots, and a few small flocks of Little ravens[2] digging for worms or poking through rubbish bins. Noisy miners[3], of course, shrieking and fluttering about in the undergrowth, and a few Red wattlebirds[4], including the ones that are having a ball in the callistemon in our front garden. A few flocks of Common mynas[5] out that way to the south-east, including very large numbers around some of the industrial buildings where I think they roost in the rafters.
