Ugh, nearly two weeks later and all of a sudden the time has caught up with me and I hadn't written up my daily posts. So much for my commitment
Today was a long drive and probably a few blue bonnets[1]. We left Horsham, albeit a day late after yesterday's hyperthermic cycling adventure, and drove up to the border, visiting the silos and their silo art along the way. The birds were nly glanced from the car as they flew up from the grass beside the road onto fences or powerlines and low branches, but definitely a different colour to the other small parrots I've ever seen. Yellowish underside with a red patch around the vent, around the size of the Red-rumped grass parrots[2] that I've also seen so many of out here.
Update: We also found a dead butterfly at one of the many silos, it would have been unremarkable except it was a Monarch[3] and I haven't seen one for years... except for a couple of days ago in one of the other silo towns, flitting past while we looked at a silo. There must be something out here that they like — milkweed of some sort I suppose.
