Cold and damp on the ride home, near mid-year, a month from the winter solstice and getting gloomy. The creek-side woodlands from Huntingdale road to Oakleigh pool is the current home of a flock of Pied currawongs[1], their warbling calls a perfect match for the weather. Further up the hill towards Oakleigh there's much high-spirited shrieking as a flock of Rainbow lorikeets[2] fight over roosting spots and get themselves organised for the night.
