A change of timing, no afternoon bike ride. Instead today a minor observation while out for a walk after lunch on one of the days I'm in at work. Around a few blocks of the streets near the University, some old gardens and some desolate new building sites -- one by one the rundown small old weatherboard houses with gardens are bulldozed and replaced by blocks of townhouses to maximise student rental revenue. The gardens an unwanted extra. A few Noisy miners[1] shouting in and around the trees and bushes, then the loud persistent calls of a Grey butherbird[2] from one of the larger old trees as I was nearly back on campus, culminating in a near-swoop as it flew out of one tree and passed directly overheard up into the next.
