Another big flock of Little corellas[1] as I went out for my ride, grubbing around in the grass in the middle of Logie street digging up roots to eat, but surely I can find something else on my ride around, especially as I'd decided to go around the tracks and visit the wetlands.
The water looks stagnant, there's a big bloom of green algae on the surface, hardly any water birds to be seen from the landing so I head around to the birdhide, although there's not much to see from here most of the time. Amusingly today it was in the bird hide, not seen from it! A pair of pukeko[2] stalking the path, a Willy wagtail[3] on the bench seat, a scrub wren[4] flitting about catching insects and plucking spiders webs from the corners. They all flew off -- or stalked off -- as I approached, but checking out over the water there was nothing there as usual.
