Towering over our back garden is a bay tree, the common bay laurel so beloved of ancient romans for their wreaths, and chefs for the ubiquitous bay leaf. Nearly impenetrable, I've often wondered what does live in it? The Common mynas[1] alternate between it and the plum tree for a vantage point over the garden, often heard and not as often seen are the tiny Brown thornbills[2], amazingly loud for their size as small flocks move through the foliage chasing insects. Up at the top there's sometimes a raven or two -- I even suspect we had a nest up their one year. What else? I've no idea, perhaps others will reveal themselves over the years.
