2021/0219/1000 — backyard

Nearly wrote this up when it happened this morning but decided to wait until I'd been out for my ride -- I was sure that if I wrote about a very boring small flock of ferals in the garden that I'd be bound to see something unusual in the afternoon.

This morning while making breakfast, number one son accidentally tipped a container full of muesli across the bench and onto the floor. Most of it was scooped back up but the floor sweeping of grit, dirt and muesli all went in the compost bin... or it was going to go in the compost bin when I decided to scatter it over the back lawn for the birds. Sure enough half an hour later there was a very appreciative flock pecking and squabbling their way across the lawn eating and keeping one eye out for the cat. Sadly it was just a flock of Common myna birds[1], sometimes known as Indian mynas, they seem to be the most common bird we have in the garden, usually spending the entire day perched up in the branches of the plum tree.
