A hot and still afternoon, 33°C as I went out for my ride at 4pm, meandering up and down around suburban roads north to Gardiners Creek, then more 'burbs and up to Ferndale track before the smile-inducing downhill run through the park back to Gardiners creek and the Glen Iris wetlands.
A solitary Eastern rosella[1] shot past near the pigeon oval, so called by me because I *always* see at least a small flock of Crested pigeon[2] at the eastern end -- today only two of them. Too hot for much else to be around, magpies[3] warbling contentedly from the shade, noisy miners[4] being noisy in the trees, but then down at the wetlands a few minutes of close up contact with some Red-rumped parrots[5]. Within a metre of where I met a pair on [2021-02-10 Wed], a male & female pair were nibbling away at a succulent-looking clover kind of plant while a metre further on another pair, both males, did the same. I suspect the second pair were offspring, while I watched and took a couple of photos they again just kept an eye on me and ran across the ground to keep me at a respectable distance, loathe to fly on a hot day.
