2020/1219/1200 — garden skinks

The daily experiment has almost fallen in a heap, I generally go for a ride in the afternoon and make a mental note of what I've seen, then have had to write it up the following morning because I've been busy in the evenings. Of course sometimes I miss a day, so I'll hold it over until the next day, but then have two or more to fill out. With the way I'm writing and publishing this I've got not put any effort into making a draft of the entries I can write. Perhaps I need to redo this, perhaps the experiment is done and I need to move on...

Today I attacked a small garden bed under the plum tree in the back garden, when we moved in eight years ago it had a few herbs and nasturtiums in it, now it is just a single mat of knee high feral grass -- kikuyu I think -- and has gradually grown higher as fallen leaves and debris gets grass and tree roots grow through it. We're not sure what we want to do with the bed, under the tree makes it hard to grow anything else, but I started on ripping out all the grass and its damnable rhizomes.

Invertebrate and vertebrate garden wildlife. Endless slaters, pill bugs, small wolf-spiders scurry about with egg sacs and of most interest, a couple of skinks and a nest of skink eggs -- hopefully i didn't disturb them too much and they'll hatch and help to rebuild the population that is all too often killed off by our cat.
