A big day out on the bike around western Gippsland and lots of wildlife all day long -- I'll skip the endless rabbits[1] and note down the birds that I can remember from three days later as I write this. Two kinds of ibis; White ibis[2] & the far more attractive Straw-necked ibis[3]. Two kinds of heron; the very common White-faced heron[4] and the confusingly similiarly named White-necked heron[5]. A lone emu[6] in a paddock, I'm not sure if it was farmed or wild, either way I'd have expected to see more than one. Several pairs of my favourites, the Yellow-tailed black cockies[7], and plenty of Kookaburras[8], usually perched on the power lines, watching for food. Sadly, quite a few roadkill Blue-tongued lizards[9] and other unidentified animals and birds squashed by cars -- including a Black-faced cuckoo-shrike[10] -- a bird I haven't seen for ages. Thankfully I also saw a live one a little while later.
