A warm still early summer morning with a very grey and overcast sky, no wind, a moist damp feel to the air and ants scurrying around as a sign of impending rain. On my morning walk through Galbally reserve and back not many birds to be seen, but plenty to be heard. Rainbow lorikeets[1] shrieking through the treetops, feeding on the blossoms. There's a constant calling from the Noisy miners[2] as they locate each other all around the park. A couple of Magpie warble[3], a blackbird[4] somewhere in the garden is loudly singing over and over, and from a few houses away I can hear one of the local Grey butcherbirds[5] -- I haven't heard or seen them for a while. Also adding in a cheeky note about the very large fruitbat[6] that erupted from the plum tree and flapped away into the night last night as I walked out into the garden.
