2020/1117/1700 — Turtle tuesday

A brief pause while I review my gemini phlog to date; 47 species mentioned, almost all of them birds but mostly because that's what I go out looking for. Eight entries in October from when I decided on a daily topic to prompt me to write, and then every day in November.... so far.

Daily ride loop up Anniversary trail and down Ferndale track, then Gardiners creek to the Glen Iris wetlands where two small boys and their mum were looking in the water "at a frog" -- a nose and two beady eyes above the water. Once I saw where they were pointing I said "I think that's a turtle" and we watched and waited until it swam out from under the weeds, a moderately large Long necked turtle[1], another new species I've not met here previously.

Shortly afterwards I met another birdwatcher who told me there had been spoonbills in one of the ponds earlier in the day and a reed warbler nearby -- both birds I've not seen here, and the latter one that to me would probably be small, brown and unidentifiable.

Interestingly, I found on Wednesday as I wrote this that #turtletuesday was a thing for folk on twitter
