2020/1102/1300 — Yarraman to Carrum

Son and I rode from Yarraman to Carrum on the Eastlink trail bike path paralleling Mile creek, Dandenong creek and Patterson river to the bay, then back. Absolutely overflowing with bird-life, almost too much to mention. Small birds from the bushes beside the path and endless water birds, especially lower down near the treatment plant.

White-plumed[1] and New Holland honeyeater[2], sparrows[3] and goldfinches[4], scattered Silver gulls[5] everywhere. Larger standouts were the pelican[6] and black swan[7], large numbers of Bin-chicken[8], pied[9] and black cormorants[10], three or four Darter[11] and a pair of what I thought were avocet but on checking the book at home were probably White-headed stilt[12] flying low over the water with orangey-red legs trailing.

On the way back some Red-rumped parrots[13] then an enormous skein of birds circling high caught the eye -- suspected Straw-necked ibis[14], but too distant for ID -- and a pair of Swamp harriers[15] spiralling around each other across the paddocks and river.

There were more; all the usual suspects of duck & small waterfowl and I'm sure I've missed something obvious
