2023-02-14 / Tuesday / squeaky beetle
On the ride home along Scotchmans Creek trail I found a large black beetle, it was crossing the path in the Huntingdale wetlands so I stopped to pick it up. Partly because I thought it might be a Christmas beetle and other than one dead one, haven't seen any for the past few years, partly just because I thought someone else would ride over it. About the size and solidity of a Christmas beetle, but black, and it didn't like being picked up, wheezing and squeaking at me, which I always find surprising in a beetle. Escorted it off the path and let it go in grass

A few juvenile moorhens[1] stalked about on the garden beds, something about the way they were walking reminded me of lyrebirds foraging. Up in the trees some Noisy miners[2] and Pee-wees[3] calling
