So many grey cold dismal days recently that I've been completely uninspired to get out and look about, other than my mandatory daily bike ride, which often involves keeping my eyes down to stop them filling with water, grit and muck from the tyres
On our morning walk between breakfast and work, up through the park and back, some bird sounds and some bird sightings. The local illegal rooster seems to be back, for a couple of weeks I'm sure I hadn't heard it, now we can hear it crowing again ... or maybe its a different rooster.
It was the butcherbirds[1] that stood out though, enough to remind me to get back into it and write something here. On the way up through the park we could hear at least two, one close by in the trees south of the path, one further away on the north near the railway. Ten minutes later as we returned they seemed to still be going at it, loudly scolding each other, or maybe just declaring their love of cold wet winter mornings
