After restarting writing yesterday I found myself sitting at home almost all of the day today, hot, summery, nothing much flying overhead or to be seen in the garden. Today's bike rides were short boring chores through the suburbs, no wildlife to be seen.
During the day some gardening had me looking into the writhing mass that is the compost bin, an endlessly heaving assortment of slaters and pill-bugs... or are they the same colloquial names? A few worms too, but mostly getting too hot and dry
Later in the evening a couple of cicadas started calling, but nothing particularly loud or long
