With a record-breaking 24°C, this day certainly was something special. Unfortunately, due to sudden change of plans, I was unable to check this year's special out for the first time. I still took the time to make some noteworthy observations in my main study area.
+-------------------------+------------------------------+--------+ | Species | Location | Status | +-------------------------+------------------------------+--------+ | Aglais io | Zone I / II / III / Ag. Ent | Adult | |-------------------------|------------------------------|--------| | Anthocharis cardamines | Zone I / II / III / Ag. Ent | Adult | |-------------------------|------------------------------|--------| | Gonepteryx rhamni | Zone II | Adult | |-------------------------|------------------------------|--------| | Nymphalis polychloros | Zone II | Adult | +-------------------------+------------------------------+--------+
The vast majority of butterflies consisted of A. cardamines, with females and males in roughly equal numbers. N. polychloros was seen engaging in "treetopping".
With the upcoming weather changes, I highly doubt that I'll make similar observations for at least a week. However, the sudden appearance of A. cardamines already predicts a promising season.
