Seed-crusted Whole-Wheat Bread

Whole-wheat bread is rarely exciting, but this one is light, ridiculously delicious and healthy. It is rare that a loaf of this bread is not eaten the same evening.

The bread has a light, firm texture and is pretty easy to slice. Great for sandwiches!

An organic loaf like this will cost you more than $10 at a NYC bakery. You can make it at home for a couple of bucks.

1 1/8 cup water
2 Tsp     yeast
1 Tbsp    sugar
250g      Organic Whole-Wheat flour
250g      Bread or all-purpose flour
1 Tsp     salt
2-4 tbsp  seeds/nuts to mix in, and

Seed/nut mix

seeds/nuts can be whatever healthy stuff you have around. I use:

Chop these pretty small. I usually chop a decent quantity and keep it in a container (in the fridge), as it chopping makes a bit of a mess.

Making Bread

As usual, pour in warm water, then the ingredients in the order listed above. Start your machine on whole-wheat cycle.

After it mixes, remove the blade as usual. Push the dough back down and flatten the surface.

Now, wet your hand, and gently wet the surface of the dough. It should become very sticky. Now sprinkle a layer of your seed/nut mix on top, and using your fist, gently push the seeds into the bread. You don't want it all to fall off when you remove the bread!
