George McManus cameos in a movie about his comic strip creation, which is surprisingly fun and amusing. It centers around Dinty Moore's bar, Jiggs' favorite drinking hole, and a plot by the evil Kermishaw company to take it down. The regulars at the bar sign a petition, thinking it's for helping to restore the area and renovate the bar, when in reality it's to declare the bar a public nuisance, close it permanently, and make the patrons of the bar promise to never drink again. This is obviously unacceptable, especially to their wives, who collect even more signatures to open the place back up so they can get their husbands out of the house.
It also features one of the Kermishaws trying to woo Jiggs' daughter Nora and failing, but not before making Dinty Moore's son think that he's blown it with her. The best character in the movie, the butler, unfortunately does not have nearly enough screen time. I liked the plumber, too.
A movie about a bar wouldn't be complete without a bar fight, of course, but it ends in a stalemate when they realize none of them can win because they're all Irish.
All in all, it's a really fun time, and I'd definitely recommend it.
