later, we discovered it had been murder
that the guest priest was neither priest nor guest
thus explaining later, with tears in our eyes
how it just took a really long time
mysterious ways and all
for who is to question the ways of our gods
later, apologizing to the gods for months
after using unholy water, as one does
un-blessing pretty much everything
including the rose garden out back
and the marriage bed of our best beloved
for who is to question the ways of our gods
later, purifying the purification pool
was an act of both contrition and regret
only after the gods themselves interceded
on behalf of the market down the road
tired of special-order unholy lattes
