Smart Things

first thing you expect from the movie dropships is sound
but it ��s silent all the way down, ghost of a ghost
shields out, computers custom grown, neutral emissions
the artificial stupids, even the poor ones can track a hole
hit an AI on insert, and if not a nothing
some smart thing tags splash plus one, maybe registers
something like satisfaction, gets on with its day
so, no roaring, no fast, just slipping past
maybe watching false positives pulling whiskers of death
not quite close enough to interact, wakeless
touchdown, well, that ��s slower still, burrowing in
an agitation of manipulative shielding fielding questions
folding space ever-so-gently, a backpacker without trace
adapting for look-down, wasting no heat, respecting rod
hold digging tune on repeat until the drop crew regrets
maybe three long days to resting deep, a sapper ��s work
all roiling away to the neutrino rendition of logistics
rooms, tunnels, infrastructure �� these days, drop colony
most closely resembles the insistence of survival under
will, more later upon later, crew can get a run in, suffer
those very first-in-weeks lactic acid builds without price
paid in unsuppressed vibration, laying waste themselves
that of the rubble they ��ve become, they might rebuild
adding their own smart things, their own dreaming wisps
finally grinning again, fully human, synthetics in tandem
undiscovered, quantum pairing coming on within cradle
home, this is home again, checking in
