Explaining Small Mammals

had someone spun sugar
in friendly cereal shapes
for my keening childhood self
they ��d have smiled and added milk
indifferently measured
not the least confused
when that crass confection
simply melted into cheerful
colorful liquid death
staining white plastic
just knocked the lot back
and screaming
run into the distance
in a manner no different
from any other morning
