Drifting Sweets
December 11, 2021
when they stuck him in a cage
taunted his sways, hosed him down for station clean
burned his medicine, threw him behind wire
after his skull fit through those first bars
loose teeth and all
he never stopped laughing
complimented their clothes
their education, that one day swine
would catch disease from human
naming it safety, worms in dreaming
howled siren ��s song
behind that not-quite-enough faraday
shorting cameras, spitting blood to lenses
doubling down invisible, singing
drum out of earshot, good enough
mother naked, hair afire
bit wire, popped dick off, easy-easy
worked baculum clear, honed it down
concrete to bone, waiting-waiting
her eyes that ancient desert brown
when they pulled her from the cage
who-the-hell-are-you, that ivory made fast work
scuffed moccasin sounds, cleaning-cleaning
her nimble fingers making anew
neck below deserted stars boasting fresh-tanned leather
now cackles in the high ��n ��dry
growing new bones, making tracks
sometimes struck to sanity, sometimes cactus
she says faces, he says faces, their instance
teaching of that most personal disambiguation
