someone repeated today, imagine born in 1900
comes the war, comes the flu, comes depression
how lovely your life is now, to whine and complain
when others survived far more
as though competition were forming, that we might
upon the shoulders of those Olympians of suffering
smile
that someone had it worse, a competitive decoration
that we might hang as ballast upon our generation
laying weights, breaking bones at three quarter tons
whispering perdition of the other ��s golden virtue
rev up the donkey, wrap the straps
teach our children to simulate drowning
and smile in question
when our children turn upon us
with such sharp teeth
we ��d claimed selfish
