in boxes on a shelf labelled gender in a room that smelled vaguely of clean
nearly forty million note-cards, five-by-nine, were stored in linen wrap
carefully climate controlled, each labelled with a skill or a task
and a reference to the encyclopedia gal-stan and accompanying research materials
for perfecting that skill or task in a variety of ways
which probably would have been easier to work with if the GSE hadn ��t burned
frittered away to molecular nothing when its main sequence primary
turned out not to be and did a nova, later described fwabbo
by the folks with the best view from the next system over
cheerful creatures who, when asked for further details, referenced the GSE
and provided the star chart which led us here, to this small vaguely clean room
where a wall with boxes of notecards utterly failed to reference gender
beyond that one shelf title, each task isolated in conceptual void
with no further suggestion for who maybe should do it
