Mine To Defend

we used to say
when the sound is flame
and the smell is flame
and the taste begets the middle name
of the high-born lord who in his fame
who designed this crematorium
and all that ��s asked is what became
of bodies we counted closest cousins
and all we ��re told is those aren ��t cousins
do not kiss, be not remiss
be pure in mind and action
I sit upon the threshold
where me and mine are never stolen
never lost unto ambition, nor spent
to fuel the burning, learning only
how the other, how the other
was never cousin, never loved
nor mine in family, just biding time
slag upon the pyre
not even I, mine to defend
