I arrived from driving city, nearly empty in the day
construction diverting traffic, leaving places where I roamed
until myself directed, I found the church �� a school of old acquaintance
brick and seven languages consolidated at the door �� speaking low
we have cast and bronzed our demons, they are no more alone
within, all gold and orthodoxy, and children, some my own
retuned more happy to this sequestered life they ��d grown
where stepping through the halls I saw their enemies enthroned
found myself sweat-hauling, antiquated and enthralling
a desk in many sections, maple, ivory, bone
perhaps I ��d had it purchased with the children here somehow
or thieving snuck among the chambers �� ah the many chambers
nautilus heart below
t ��was there I ��d heard the mimicry like language but more finicky
heavy on the tin and fragile, coppered skin restraining nothing
a thousand drawers and furniture, all maple laminate and bird ��s eyed
rustling within, bustling with welder ��s rhythm, a spark, a glow, a soul
here are your children eaten released to undertow
where are your memories of making, polished up and undertaking
admit no dead, no soft remaking, beeswax and endless rubbing
spiral follows rags
where calm with well kept tapestries and linen robes of mastery
the word began, the human word, to ring the bells, to swell the singing
to overwrite with un-forked tongue that precision in the ticking
unsure, I left the desk �� a reef, a master wrapped in neutral grief
to pay attention better unencumbered, to step with clear incision
honeyed nest and sweet revision, dripping layer upon sayer
tell ��s toll a hint of imperfection in the sanded casting mold
prayer upon the bow and lip, yoked hard restraint has slipping space
not quit the spare of resonance, nor repetition in the grievance
the missed point of cancellation sealing naught, and freeing gait
offset within the walking pace, stepping into otherspace
where workers within the oldest pool gathered by their desks and tools
finding in unwanted rules, segments of line and spines forever shifting
nautilus heart bellows
I arrived from driving city, from corridors of matrons, from gods among the children
in dusty coat and hard-pressed thought, from languages and language knots
my ownest desk and drafting spools pocked and dronal waiting
three organs driven by well won leather, a dozen tables brought together, companionable
smiling the core that no seal ��s perfect, and curtailed the start is in releasing
a curl of weather, a cloud of thought, the bell and prayers but a quark
where universe is dreaming, where spark is gap and measure
endless treasure nestling, a meal in the pause of wrestling
spiry waxes rags
and here the erroring pattern, deskater tracked with preservation
oiled well and pollinated, tincture marked and pen-ablated
surfaces from within itself the golden memory of sun, not metal but of being someone
hazed between soft down duvet and parchment scraped of a thousand lays
begets a pause, a heartfelt pause, but one can begin knowing nothing
with careful strokes of carbon, and if the pattern errs, error in
and where the pattern skips, begin, a field of stone before the celestory
a hair before the thought returns, a curve of wrist refusing shackles
