so let me dig that grieving plumb
who knows their soldiers best
from birth to gravity ��s long bow end
pointed pure and tested
poisoned, kicked, forgotten, rested
sullied, wrested sometimes
let that line aquiver still
become the chest-strapped harness
and in the service let us sing
of glory and of triumph
as though it were a tale round
for sword, and shine, and shield
easier than oath, that story
ninety-nine one hundredths waiting
and in the crush found wanting
if only for the reflex still
if only still reflected
their tether, then, remember when
how humming soft insistence
four corners square un-chastened
flown folds to three for sinking
in those gone on, the winking stell
in those remaindered ripples
well-schooled, well-versed
in memory perfected
and then upon the mound speak true
in the speaking ourselves review
that mob which is our meter
swirled slow and silent willed
rifled, spun, and stowed and stilled
not crimpled by the word but strengthened
not shadowed as the evening ��s lengthened
reflux best dressed, awake the night
tension in the string
where with all time unstuck in vigil
cat ��s cradle ��s brought to simple
