Three Days Behind Stone
January 15, 2019
the illusion is that of cloth over a face, damp and tight
but tapped, it rings like the thinnest porcelain
slightly detuned where the glue strayed thick
but still the whisper of glaze and wind
touching here the drape
and here nape
unmoved
cloth and glue as though hiding sinew and skin
nothing within �� the finest of layers spun
then hung, smoother again and done
were you to place a finger behind, and in front a thumb
the space interrupt would be that of cotton
pulled in soft and clean, unwitting, unwitnessed
gently stretched to sheen, waterfalled and pastured
fibrous erasure just hinting at lips
neither positive nor negative
that thinnest of shells
more glue than cloth
as structure
soothed
