A fun ramble about thoughts I have about why God Complexes exist and related things they manifest as.
I'm generally very interested in consciousness. Just... experiencing the world in the first person. Why you're YOU instead of anyone else. It's a truly and wholly unique experience for each person.
I always wonder what physical/spiritual/whatever reason is there for the distinction of who is who and the ability to experience from the eyes of something at all.
That's something I'll probably dive deeper into another time, because I've thought about it a lot and am still trying to fully put it into words.
What I want to talk about here is a result of this conscious experience and how it manifests in some people as a god complex or a similar "chosen one" or "main character" kind of delusion.
A textbook god complex is someone believing that they are a god like entity, or have god like importance. The exact personal reasoning for this varies, but stems from them knowing or recognizing that /they/ are conscious as themselves.
If they're conscious and they can't prove or experience the consciousness of others, then their instance of being conscious must be special in some way.
Even if they believe or recognize that other people are conscious, they feel like they must be special because they are actually experiencing from their own eyes.
Depending on one's upbringing they may not believe in the "god" part of the god complex when presented with this information, but still fall into the closest thing that their beliefs allow.
For example, if someone is religious they won't see themselves a god, but are someone specially chosen by /their/ god. They are a prophet or a "chosen one" in their mind.
The extent of this "chosen one" complex can range from relatively tame (a sense of pride that they were chosen for example, not necessarily bad as it can give a feeling of purpose and motivation in life) to something more extreme (believing it is your LIFE'S MISSION to do something for your god by their command, such as valiantly spreading their word or cleansing dissenters).
What I find interesting about this is that many people have had this kind of experience to some degree. At the very least the realization that you are conscious and how unique it is to see the world from your first person perspective.
The fact that it's such a relatively shared experience is curious, and gives an insight on how the brain works and reasons with things it can't prove or understand.
This doesn't really have a conclusive ending or point, but I've had these thoughts on my mind and wanted to get them out somewhere just to document and log them so they aren't lost.
I plan to write more on consciousness and things that happen because of the conscious experience as I find the words for them.
Hope you're having a good day!
