I like it and will definitely come back to read more. Great layout - extremely readable and I like the spare use of special characters to organize things. Your efforts are greatly appreciated.
Can you tell us about what you use to serve the pages? I noticed the odd URLs... Do you have a special server or a CGI for everything?
Also, would love to see the pictures of your Atari-inspired system.

this is amazing, i am really impressed. did you create something like a custom cms? what is it written in?

Very nice, I was a yeshiva student but haven't made ordination yet. Similarly aged, growing up with tech I've relaunched a telnet BBS and then stumbled into Gemini.

Quite nice, however I hope you remember that gemfeed links cannot have any characters preceding the YYYY-MM-DD date. A visitor might be confused about the links on your front page that look like feed entries but aren't really. Without the character prefixes, your front page would be subscribable, too, but now it's just the "Feed" page that has valid feed entries.

i will comment here, because i cannot comment there, just this time: man, i have a same notebook. it runs gentoo, and it is my dedicated film scanning workstation. it, perhaps would be a better server than desktop, so i might reuse it like that one day. but my version is core2, i didn't know there was an amd version.
π norayr Β· Jun 07 at 08:05:
i cannot resist again to not mention that we have no comments in our gemlogs usually, and that even if i registered there on someone's gemlog, with my keys, then it would be great to be able to check somehow that i am the same person i link to (my comment should link to my capsule). and i just thought abut it: if i use the same keypair as on my server, skyjake, and everyone, do you think the random gemlog can make sure that i am indeed the person behind the capsule i link to?

Hi everyone! Thank you so much for the kind feedback, I'm a bit taken aback by your wonderful comments. I'll try to respond:
@stack and @norayr - The site is served up using a CGI script I cobbled together in Python. I am running gmid with fastcgiwrap as the server. The python script is a single file, It's basically a flat-file CMS, parses folders and serves up files in them. Folder display can be configured with a .toml file placed in the root. I like the simplicity of just copying a file to a directory so no "admin panel". It has some extra features: it can process macros in gmi files, and I added some custom markup for footnotes. I might release it if there's interest.

@Queen_City_Nerd How wonderful! I would be so interested to read reflections from you - on Yiddishkeit, on Scriptures, and faith in general! I looked up your capsule and was trying to connect to the BBS but it seemed to be down...

@skyjake Thank you so much for the reminder and your feedback. I love how Lagrange formats links with icons and have been having fun with that, but you're right about the slightly confusing look. I'll give it more thought - either make the previews less like feed items, and let people subscribe to the central / individual feeds, or make the front page subscribable... I'll have a think.

@norayr Re: notebook; amazing! I think I made a mistake in the post, I misremembered, it is indeed an Intel system. Re: commenting, yeah, I've been thinking about what the best way to get comments working would be. I like how some use "fedimentions" and scrape replies to Mastodon posts containing the page URL, but it might not be the quickest.
Re: Verification of identities - we could come up with a convention of providing a link to our "canonical" fingerprint. I published mine on my gemlog so people can verify it really is me. Perhaps this could be automated somehow: upon registration you could supply a link to your fingerprint hosted on your capsule for example?

@Vigilia.cc so it's up for sure. I've got email over at hashnix.club if you want to trouble shoot. You need a client, you can't get into it via web browser. If you're running linux you might have telnet in the command prompt too. Address is: queencitybbs.ddns.net
and the port is: 607
Gem email: QueenCityBBS@hashnix.club which I think is very BBS like and only internal to other hashnix.club people. If you hit the front door 3 times in 120 seconds and fail it will auto black list your IP as a bot too. Keep me posted and Sholem Aleichem!

Something I especially like about your pages is the ASCII art.

@blah_blah_blah Thank you! Love ASCII art really. Iβd love to know more about ANSI art too - admire it but creating it is another matterβ¦
Vigilia.cc revamp β Just wanted to make a quick announcement to say I did a fair bit of work on my capsule, and I kinda like the stage I got to with it; so have a look if you want. Please feel free to subscribe to the feeds as well - Iβve added gemfeeds to it.
